I like countless others started the day with an upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron). I started the upgrade with Synaptic and went through with no issues. The issue started when I rebooted my laptop. On booting when gdm started it just hung right before the login screen opened up. After trying many things I finally hot ctr-atl-f1 to get into a console. I than ran 'top' as root to see what was holding things up. As it turned out 'gdmgreeter' was sitting at %100 CPU. After a little reading I ran into this POST. As it turns out you need to edit /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom removing the custom entries for [gdmgreeter]. |
